Mornin' Bob, Yes Sir, that's for sure; the good old days are just plain gone, I guess. :>( But then on the other hand, when the iron was switched over to electronic control, the fuel/air ratio was accurately controlled and the overdriven, locked-converter type transmissions dropped that engine speed by 27%, it sure put an end to all those burnt valves, it cut the bad alternator bearings in half and it really stopped those engines from being completely wobbled out at about 50,000 miles too. From my end tho, those GM trannys sure made me a lot of money over the years. I could never understand why GM bull-headily insisted on using those "lipped" seals, which would fail like clockwork. You could almost write it on your calendar when it would be time to trade again. Ol' Henry Ford had it figured out a long time ago when he plugged in those square-cut seals; 'cause they just plain last a lot longer. :>) Hope you get your truck goin', Allan

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
