The number you are seeing is a casting number. You need to look carefully at the engine block, where shown in the picture on the site I linked. This number stamped into the engine is the TRACTOR serial number (providing the engine block has never been swapped out). There may be layers of paint or rust over the weakly hand-stamped serial number, but it should be there. Various castings on the tractor have date codes cast into them from when the castings were made. (Could be MONTHS before the tractor was built) I believe there are often visble date codes under the castings that extend out to the LH and RH rear wheels (axle "trumpets"), and, if you are beneath the tractor, looking up, just ahead of the seat area, you will see a rectangular casting bolted to the bottom of the tractor. This is the hydraulic pump base, and it SHOULD have a date code on it. For more "date info", go to the "N" board and type "date codes" into the search box at the top of the page.
