Change Generator to Alternator..3000 Ford

How much is involved in changing from a generator to an alternator on a '68 Ford 3000. I don't think it is charging like it should and am considering an alternator. I can do most mechanical engine work but don't know much about the charging system. The system is already 12 volt. I would appreciate any help.
