What's wrong with your previous choice. I think the post '65's are nicer with live PTO, but if you can find an early model with live should be an excellent choice. Don't think I'd buy without live or independent PTO.

The 3000's of the '65up years is an excellent choice also. Gas or diesel shouldn't matter as the Fords of that era were/are gas sippers.

They are so handy, stable, and easy to get around on. Probably wouldn't need power steering as the weight of the hog would keep the front end light enough to be easily steered.

On a mower, the Bush Hog brand and Rhino/Service both make heavy duty models specifically to stand up to the rigors of cutting saplings.

Would be sure and get the front chains or belting to keep cuttings from puncturing the tractor's rear tires.

You'll be near your $10k number with a good, painted,later model 4000 running $5 to 6 and a HD hog running $2.5 to 3.
