We had a guy hit the South Hill road bridge over I96 about 5 years ago. He was carrying an enormous excavator. The bridge is 13'6 high. He hit it with a least 3 ft to spare. The saddest part was that the excavator fell sideways into a car and a young woman was paralysed as a result. Several people were injured. The driver was not insured, had no permit, no licensce at all. The company he worked for was a shell corp. - No assets. All they could get the driver for was reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. I think him and the people he worked for ought to have gone to jail for awhile. This closed the expressway for 3 days, cut phone service for 3,000 people, and the bridge was repaired and now is being replaced. At one time here a few years ago, there was only 2 weighmasters in the tricounty area of se mich. We have the highest weight limits in the country. Irv
