The amount you take off is not critical but it is important to take the same amount off the bolting surface as you do off the friction surface. The spline on the transmission input shaft allows quite a bit of machining to be done. I certainly would not put any shims between the crank and the flywheel. You won't be able to keep the flywheel tight. Ed
