Allan: Catch onto yourself, lots of folks bought those German diesels. They don't have the torque, their American counterparts do. Their smoke is annoying. However they wear well and have good fuel efficiency. Personally I was fortunate enough to never have an IH German diesel. I just never happened to be in the market for a tractor while IH was using these engines. I understand from neighbors, IH was less than up front on the source of these engines in American built row crop tractors. The IH dealer in my area sold a few 886 with 360 American diesels. Those few sold a whole lot more for him. But the whole lot more came with the 358 German diesel. That incident he claims hurt his business more than 560 rear ends, fast hitch, cavitation. All those many farms that had 886 tractors are now running Green ones. They are probably German too.
