The auto works just like one in a car. You have gears 1,2,2-3,2-4, and 2-5. There is no clutch. You just make sure the tractor is at an idle, put the lever in 2-4. Push the throttle lever all the way forward and the tractor will start grabbing gears until 4th. Then I back the rpms off to about 1800. If the tractor hits a hard spot and lugs down, it will drop back to 2nd gear. To get the other 5 gears there is another range.
