My company was bought out by a larger company 7 years ago. We now have 6 business units in 3 states and still expanding. With more volume comes less overhead. Our insurance costs dropped drastically and our purchasing power increased exponentially. We buy commodities cheaper now than I ever imagined possible. We have certain aspects of our operation consolidated and centralized which also lowers overhead. That's what the whole Atlantic Tractor deal was about. It was a merger of 7 or 8 different companies with over a dozen locations all looking to cash in the power of being one large corporation. I don't know how you do business, but everybody else merges or expands to become more successful. Check out the top rated companies in the world and you will not find one that went from a mega corp to a single location to be as successful as they are. Funny thing how the Caterpillar dealer in our area did the same thing. Over the last 10 years Alban Tractor Co. has bought up every CAT dealer with a 70 to 100 mile radius of Baltimore. These guys buy up the competition for one reason - higher profits.
