New Chevy pick-up / oil change

My uncle just bought a new 2005 chevy pick-up truck. Has small V-8 engine. He read in the owners manual , the oil may not have to be changed for 100,000 miles. WOW! That's a long time. Should it have read 10,000 miles? What do you all think? What kind of oil comes in these new chevy pick-ups. He would like to switch to Mobil One , like used in his other trucks.
