I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong about contracting a job. I will say how I handle this situation. Once a price is agreed on for the job, the money can be deposited in an escrow account, for the contractor when the job is completed. Usually a contractor either has the money to buy the material or has good enough credit to secure the material. When the job is finished, the money can be released to the builder. Or, the property owner can buy the material for the job, and the contracting expenses can be deposited in an escrow account to be released upon completion of the job. A simple way to keep both parties honest. Dick
