Howdy Dave, Boy, you need to be a hay farmer down here in S. Ohio. Spring moisture has been my enemy for the last three years. Never can get into my alfalfa to make the first cutting until it has grown, fallen over, and grown a bunch more. Last two years I could pick up a plant and it would top out around my chest. That makes it hard to cut with anything being that long and vined out on the ground ha ha. In fact, last year I cut the first cutting with a 6' rotary cutter. Lost a lot of it but it sure did clip it clean. This year I'm tradin work with a friend from church who has a mower conditioner. So, we'll see if he can have better luck cutting it for me. Oh well, I sure ain't gonna complain though. Though it is rough at times, there isn't a single a bale of hay in that barn now. The good Lord always makes a way for us and I thank Him for it. God bless. --old fashioned farmer
