Just a thought. With a rear discharge you can go up a field then back down again next to your previous pass. With a side discharge you might have to go round and round (if there is any quantity of grass that is ), say if it discharges to the left, you would be turning right all the time, so you would not be pulling in grass that had been previously mown.For example, my 'Walk behind' JD JE75 lawn mower came with a grass catcher, a mulch plug and side discharge chute. I made a rear discharge hood for it for mowing longish grass for that very reason. I hardly ever use the side discharge chute.
