I have a 1982 model 5020. About 15 years ago it would not start from the key switch. It just acted like the battery was dead. I changed the battery but nothing. I jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver with the key on and it started. Since then, I had the starter rebuilt and installed a new solenoid. Actually, 2 solenoids. It still does not start occasionally. I just keep a screwdriver on the tractor and when it will not start I jumper the solenoid. I just do this once and the key switch will work. Good luck...
