B&D, Don't understand how too large on a diesel will impede torque. Case in point...OTR 18 wheelers. 2 Straight pipes; exhaust system of choice; minimum restrictions. I can remember yaking on the radio, during my truckin days, and guys would talk about (illegally) taking their mufflers off and going to straight pipes to improve their ability to climb certain grades. Talked about the improved pulling capability.... Also, as the case with my 2430. Why did the engine mfgr put a 3+" dia outlet on his exhaust manifold if he didn't want it to breathe. Thinking....................I'll answer that. Because he uses this engine on the 2440 where it has a turbo sitting on top of it and the turbo definitely wants reduced back pressure and high volume. Ok, so now we are back to non turbo performance vs turbo and free flowing exhaust vs restrictive. Not the expert, just kicking thoughts around and looking for the right answer....course I already have the right answer. My 4010 has a straight pipe and runs like a scalded ape....like to hear it growl...thru my earplugs of course. Ha! Later Mark
