You might look at finishing flail type mowers. They are a lot shorter front to rear and don't make any windrow at all. I have a JD 24A and its a little rough at anything faster than 1.6 mph. Scallops because there aren't enough cutting parts. But it handles corn stalks just fine. I don't remember who makes a finish flail but they are made. Would only be a rear mount. I mow a smaller patch with a JD 112 and a belly mount mower and I do detect some effect of the front wheels on the perfection of my mowing. It doesn't bother me, the main thing here where I rent is that I show the effects of mowing regularly, not that its perfection. I tend to mow at such a speed that the deck is bounding along and that makes for a rough cut, but with a 47" deck I mow fast enough and trim in the process. And I can ride it UNDER trees... Gerald
