A fundamental mowing question before I spend more money

Thinking of putting a new 8 foot rotary mower behind an IH504 to mow my nice 5 acre lawn. Small mowers take too dam long! Here is the question-Is a 5000 pound tractor with turf tires good for mowing? Don't the tires squish the lawn down just before the mower goes over it making the less effective or do most mowers have enough lift to pull the squished down grass up into the blades? Is a front mount mower a little better or a lot better for the job with respect to the difference in cost? Does anyone make a front mount 7 or 8 foot mower to fit an IH 504? Thanks in advance.
