If you wanna use that 504 go for it. But if soil compaction means anything to you (not necessarily the same thing as ruts) then that argues for a lighter machine. One of the bigger MTD's will crank right along, should do 5 acres in 2 or 3 hours. And it'll be a darnsite more manueverable. You won't have hook and unhook a finish mower from your 504, assuming that you use it for anything else about then.
