Broken, If I were you, I'd go over there with hat in hand and cash in my pocket. I'd apologize to him for causing any problem with his hay and tell him that I value his friendship. (I realize that this guy isn't your close neighbor but you did do business with him.) I'd give him his money back and tell him to keep the hay with the hope that he'll be able to use some of it. I remember reading a verse in the Bible some time ago that goes like this: Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver or gold." Your future relationship with this guy and your reputation in the community are worth a whole lot more than any money you may have gotten for a rack full of hay. Good luck, Tom in TN
