Depending on the type of hay, and the region of the country, some people are experiencing the the same problems due to high humidity. If the hay is fairly heavy, even with high heat and wind the hay will sometimes draw and retain moisture from the ground due to the humidity. This would cause the heating and the molding problem. Depending of course what you are feeding it to, mold has little effect on most ruminants. The heat issue could possible cause a fire. As a rule, I let my hay sit in the field at least 3-7 days if I believe there is a problem. As far as refunds, you sold the hay too cheap any way. Square bales where I live are worth any where between $2.50 and $3.00 a bale in the field. Perhaps you should consider selling it by the ton.
