Butch - you have it just reversed. Octane level is directly proportional to the "oxidative" quality of the fuel, and therefore its explosivity. However, your adjustment to timing for altitude, and maybe one for carburetor has corrected already for the use of lower octane. You've already done it. Your logic was just wrong.
