I don't know if the systems are the same, but I may have good news (no, not about GEICO). I had a 574 on which the hydraulics (3 point lift) got weaker and weaker as I was cutting hay with a disc mower- figured the pump was failing- but only had about an acre to go, so decided to just leave mower down and finish. Then, the PTO quit. Come to find out, the PTO is hydraulically engaged- turned out my fluid had not been changed in some time (just got the tractor), and had some crud in it that clogged the filter- changed filter and fluids, everything fine again. So check fluid and filter first.
