There is a more important reason than cost for mixing antifreeze with water. Approximately 2/3 antifreeze and 1/3 water forms a "eutectic" mixture which has the lowest possible freezing point. Pure antifreeze can actually freeze at temps near 0 F...obviously pure water = 32 F, but 70/30 won't freeze until something like -68.
