Too much mower for tractor?

I purchased a 6 1/2 foot finish mower for my John Deere B. It seems too heavy for my tractor. The front end raises when I try to lift it. Will weights on the front solve this? How much weight? If not I would like to sell it. I think it's an old Ford mower - it has three belts. Also - I purchased a PTO override clutch but how do you make it stay on the PTO? There is no pin or clip it seems to hold it.
