My family lived and worked in East Africa for many years and always got our milk direct from the neighbors milking. (These are not the enemic dairy cows you find in this country! They didn't give much milk (maybe a quart twice a day) but it was half cream! Our kids had a heck of a time getting used to "full cream milk" here -- they said the store had watered it down! Anyway, we always strained it (yes, flies, manure, hair etc.) poured it in a pan and set it on the kerosene stove to just bring it to a boil. There are little glass gizmos that you put in the bottem of the pan that rattle when the milk is *just* ready to boil -- otherwise we ALWAYS seemed to boil it over no matter how much we watched! (Lehman's hardware in Kidron Ohio has them I think, as they sell to the Amish and missionaries everywhere). Worked for us! I have never seen the pasturizers mentioned in the other posts, but I imagine they would work too. What kind of cows ya gettin? My dad grew up on a Guernsey dairy -- "used to wash out the pails with Holstein milk" is what he has told me.... Peter
