Ah yes the old Schramm Pneumatic tractor. I fisrt laid my eyes and hands on one when I was stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. It was 1976 and I was assigned to an antisubmarine patrol squadron. The Navy had a few of these tractors on every Naval Air Station. They were great because you could drive your comressed air source to the airplane wherever it was parked and also tow several other pieces of ground support equipment and tools behind it. I quickly learned to love the ugly little rascal. One bonus feature was the rearward center of gravity, it doesn't take an 18 year old boy long to find out how to wheelee one of those things. Sadly, I found out it doesn't take the shop Chief long to catch you dioing it and slap the $&^%**#@ out of you. For those that don't know the Schramm had a straight six cylinder engine the forward three cylinders powerer the engine, the aft three compressed air into a huge accumulator tank. That tractor usually spent abuot 14 hours a day running as a compressor and another 2 dragging gear around the flightline (or doing wheelees)lol!
