This ones gonna be a long one Tim. I knew she was the "roughest of the rough" when I bought it; but I kinda wanted to "putz around" with a winter project. Sure didn't know what I was bitin' off here. Heh, he. :>) I really think this engine was frozen or locked up before I bought it and someone has "loosened it up", 'cause it pushed blue smoke and had loads of blow-by when I brought it home. Since I've been running it and makin' it work again, the darned blue smoke has completely stopped and the blow-by has quieted down to what appears to be plumb normal. Ya spose it is really possible to bring these old things back from the edge of being completely "dead"? I thought sure I was gonna have to overhaul that engine, but she really is running sweet now. Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
