The number series followed the letter series. The model 40 was the newer equivalent of the model M, the model 50 the newer version of the B, the 60 the newer version of the A, the 70 the newer version of the G, and the 80 the newer version of the R. This would mean that your model 50 is the newer version of the model B, and has a few upgrades. If you look to the left, under Research & Info, you will see Serial Numbers. Follow it through to John Deere, and you will see that the 50 and B are two different models. You can find the year out by looking up the serial number in that section of the website.
