Sounds like you got the Delco with external regulator. Can switch to a internal regulated 10SI Delco reasonably. Some good wiring and tech info at Mad Electrical site. They make some nice adapter plugs or you can wire your own. If it has a alt. charging light you may have to wire in a resistor to make it work right with the 10SI Delco. Older Motor Manuals will tell you how to test and repair those Delcos.
