JDGrn., Don't have personal recent experience with what you want, but will pass on friends and relatives experience. Sounds like you want a regular cab long bed or an extended cab short bed. From what I can tell, Chevys for many years have gotten better gas milage, but recent Fords are doing better. BIL has 03 Chevy 4wd, ext cab, 8 cyl, has gotten 22 mpg empty. Friend with Ford 8 cyl, ext cab, 2wd gets 22 mpg. Don't know about towing mpg. Both these have auto trans. Sounds like you will be using a trailer with no brakes. Check local laws if you are, but I think a 1/2 ton will be ok. I definately would not go below 1/2 ton if you will be doing this regularly. If you have trailer brakes, you could go to a smaller truck, but I don't think the gas milage would be any better. Hope this helps. KEH
