Be very cautious of spinal fusion. My dad had that done about 2 yrs. ago and his back is as bad or worse than it has ever been. Two people at our church have had a fairly new procedure done with disc replacement. Both of them have done extremely well. One of them was playing basketball with us about 7 months after surgery and is back to work as a mail carrier. Because of the spinal fusion the doc says that dad is no longer a candidate for disc replacement and he is pretty much going to have to live with his back the way it is. I would steer clear of fusion if you can.
