Hi Dixiland, XP comes with a folder named Supportools just for this very reason. It has a self installer. Any drive can be used as a external HDD. I bought the external USB driver case and use a old Maxtor drive in it. The driver case, can be used for any type of hardware including floppy's and comes with drivers for USB1.0 and 2.0 They automaticaly switch between the two as the device needs. Although not a speed demon like C drive, it's a 100 times better than CD or DVD. The new fluid HDD are very quite running and well worth the money. I use XP Home with SP2 with NO anti-virus and in over 2yrs have yet to have any problems, however I do use the XP SP2 firewall with a user account for logging on the net. The user account has no admin powers. T_Bone
