Gasoline or Diesel engine? I have a MF 40 with a Continental Z134 gasoline engine which is the same engine used in the MF 50. These governors are known for falling apart. The fingers that hold the steel balls (there is a picture in your manual) spread apart and the balls fall out. I found mine in the bottom of the timing cover and the finger assembly had also been cut up into several pieces. This is indicated when you get no movement of the governor linkage when the engine is accelerated uder load. More than likely if your governor/throttle linkage is free moving by hand and you get no action of the governor when operating, the balls have fallen out. You have to pull the timing cover to fix. Any MF dealer can get the gaskets. They also have governor repair kits.
