There is no comparing an "old" F250 to a new F250, its closer to compare an older F250 to a new F150. A reg cab 2X4 1991 F250 with a 7.3 only had 180 hp @ 3300, torque of 345 @ 1400 RPM, weighed in at 3708 lbs, and towing was only 8200 lbs. The 1990s diesel was a horse compared to the earlier F250s. Trying to compare this to a 1970s F250 with a 390 will only show how far things had progressed. A reg cab 2X4 2004 F250 with a 6.0 has 325 hp @ 3300 RPM and torque of 560 @ 2000 RPM and weighs in at 5411 lbs and its tow capicity is 13,700 lbs. Say what you want about the plastic, but in outright power, weight, and braking the newer trucks eat the older ones lunch.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
