Pettibone backhoe???? I've never seen one.. Hydraulics are hydraulics no matter what machine they're on..Your problem with the boom hydraulics are consistant with either boom cylinder packings or circuit relief valve. I would check cylinder packing condition first by disconnecting a hose from the cylinder and capping the hose. then power the other line. If the cylinder packings are shot , you will get a constant flow of oil from the open fitting on the cylinder. If no constant flow is observed , I would go to the circuit relief valve for problems
