I have an Alice G that did the same thing after I cleaned the carb! I disassembled the carburetor and soaked it in carb cleaner. When I took it apart I found that there was a small piece of wire stuck through the main jet! I of course removed the wire when I put the carb back together but I couldn’t get the engine to run properly. At partial throttle it would Gallup as you noted. I tried everything. Finally took the carb back apart and put the piece of wire back in the main jet. It ran fine then! I seem the remember years ago that my dad had the problem with the tractor wanting to Gallup all the time. He must have fixed it with the wire! The engine must have run too rich with a probably worn fuel jet. The wire closed it off enough to lean it out properly. Regards Gary

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
