Hi Bob, Packer works like a dream; my favorite implement and no, it doesn't need any weight. Darned thing is a Goliath the way it is. :>) Bob, do you mean that it has rained, the soil has dried out and now the wind is taking it away? If so, the packer is the very last thing I'd use in that circumstance; just makes matters worse. I'd be for tearin' after it with a spring tooth to rough it up. Running at a diagonal to the prevailing winds. If it is really blowing bad and you are in a hurry to tie it down, "strip" the field alternating between worked ground and open ground the same width as your spring-tooh.
