Gravely used to offer an electric start kit for the L models.Maybe scrounging around some lawnmower shops will turn up the needed parts,at least the driven sprocket with a roller clutch that bolts to the crankshaft. I believe they used an old style ford starter mounted on a flatiron bracket below the muffler with a sprocket on it instead a bendix,and a piece of #35 chain to the sprocket/clutch on the crank.They mounted the battery just in front of the hood,and did not use a charging system on the L models,you had to charge the battery every so often.
