My wife and I live in a log home we built three years ago. We hired a company to do the shell and the steel roof and did the rest ourselves. It's the best thing I've ever done. Both of us dreamed of living in a log home our whole lives. Our house is in the middle of our property, surrounded by woods on all sides. When I get up in the morning and look out the window, the only thing I can see are trees, it's great. You do have to treat logs homes and keep them sealed properly to keep moisture and bugs out of the wood. We have an oil based product on ours. The first coat lasts 1-2 years and it's due for another real soon. Subsequent coast last 6-8 years. For used log homes, I'd find a local company that builds them and find out how reliable they are by calling some of their customers. Like any other business, some are more trustworthy than others. If you go the used route, I would hire that company to inspect the home to see if it's been maintained and have them check the condition of the logs. A regular home inspector can do the rest of the home. Logs can be replaced if rotted, but if properly maintained, a log home will as long or longer than a stick built. Good luck

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
