I have a 68HP diesel tractor that I use for roadside cutting. It uses 1.5 gallons per hour. Pulling a 6 foot mower doesn't take all that long (about 15 hours per year). Well worth the $ to me to have clipped roadsides for weed control, better visibility to avoid deer hits, keep brush out of power lines, facilitates snow plowing, and, it just plain looks better.
