I have found that down here the car dealers are real jerks. If we drive in my (older) car, the salesmen basically ignore us or only show us the older junk I wouldn't buy anyway... If we drive my wife's (newer) car we are at least shown the certified pre-owned vehicles and allow us a test-drive every now and then. Actually, when we moved down here we had my 88 F-150 which was in as-new condition with low miles... anyways we drive up to the dealer to buy a car for my wife, and they ignored us. We specifically asked for a salesman, told them we had a budget of $15k and were ready to buy. Stuck around for 15 minutes while the sales people did nothing but stand around the popcorn machine and BS with each other... So I called a dealer friend back home, told him I had a $15k budget, he listed the cars that he could sell at that price, we agreed on a car, and it was on the way the next day. He even arranged to have the full amount financed so we could use our down payment $$ to pay the tax when we registered it... I miss small town ND :o( One of these days we are going to borrow our friend's 04 F250 that is fully loaded and dress up in our best clothes just to see how we are treated...

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
