I had my ICD for almost 5 yrs now. Only using the defibulator side. Like Coloken said have mine checked every 6 months also. Told me not to do any welding or go near any high voltage generators or Batterys. So far I havn't had any episodes with it. My neighbor had to have his replaced after having it about 5 or 6 yrs said he kept hearing a fant beeping noise coming from his chest area. So he thought he better see a doctor and the said his battery was getting low. He asked what the battery's cost. "$36,000" Owch thats a shock by itself. Guess if you have a week heart your a prime candidate for one. I really did'nt want one but it's there to help shock your heart in case if it was to stop. So far I had no bad experiences. Glad to hear your dad doing ok. Mike
