OT Ford truck misfires

Question for you Ford guys that know what your talking about. (GM my strong suit). I have an 89' F-150 with the 5.0 FI engine. This has the TFI-IV ignition. About a year ago the module on the outside of the distributor went bad and I replaced it and retimed the engine and it ran strong and didn't miss a beat. Then after a few months it started an irratic misfire at most engine speeds. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil it ran better but the pesky misfire is still there. I tried wiggling the distributor shaft to see if I noticed any bushing wear and it seems tight without a lot of up and down movement. I put a timing light on it and watched the timing mark as the truck idled, The mark varies a few degrees. When I watch the light it intermittantly misses a blink and I notice a slight stumble from the engine. I tried several plug wires with the same result. The truck has 195,000 miles on it and the engine about 70,000 since a rebuild but I imagine the distributor is untouched original. Doe's this sound like a good candidate for a rebuilt distributor with a new module? My other question is the condenser mounted next to the coil, what is the purpose of this? I assume it's part of the ignition, could this be the misfire problem? Reason I ask is I've never seen a condenser on a GM HEI, but I know an iffy condenser will drive you crazy trying to fix a misfire on a point ignition system. Opinions please.
