We always run the straw chopper on our combine & rake & bale it, makes _much_ nicer straw. Shorter stems are more absorbent. Our neighbor used to run a corn stalk chopper over the windrows of straw, rerake it & bale it. Bales pack a little tighter as well, straw is worth about 5 cents a bale more this way. Perhaps you could arange for this from your straw source. They make bale choppers, you drop a small square bale into it, & it chops & spreads it for you - it's hand pushed. I think a lot nicer than using a lawn mower, that sounds difficult. --->Paul
