Bill, I have messed with MF tractors for several years, and when these old tractors get some wear on the shift lever and forks, they are bad to cross gears(slip out of the forks). The problem is usually driver in a hurry. Take your time and DO NOT lift up on the shift lever when shifting and the problem will most likely go away. The other option is to rebuild the tranny by replacing the shift forks and gear lever as well as bearings, etc.(not good). Unless the tractor is in constant use by many different drivers, this is not necessary. Pay attention each time you shift, and the problem should get better. MOYE
