Dunno if it's worth it or not. I suppose that's a matter of what you want to do. There's probably a lot of more modern one ton's around with diesel engines that would be as or more useful.... and easier to get parts for, most likely. On the other hand, an old fire truck may have been well cared for, and still in good shape with not too many miles... I would be careful that this truck was not a mid-ship pumper. If it was, then you could well be into some driveline work to get it set up correctly again. I know a neighbour that converted an old Dodge back from a midship pump.... on the cheap.... and he didn't get the driveshaft right, or balance it. Needless to say, it shook. Bad. If you can handle that part of the job, you might have a nice old truck. Good luck. Rod

Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution.
