Never been near a 6000. Having said that, your description sounds like a remote filter adapter. Put an appropriately sized socket or box end wrench on the bolt and see if it will take up. If not back it off and see if the gasket has failed. There should be no suprises behind the plate. It may also be warped, I have had spin on filter plates warp and leak unless they were replaced.
