Your resistor is connected on the wrong side of the coil. It should not be between the coil and the distributor. The negative wire going to the coil should be connected to the resistor, and then a wire should run from the resistor to the coil. You also should keep everything set up for the same voltage. If you are going to run a 6 volt coil, then keep a 6 volt battery in the tractor. If you want to use a 12 volt battery, then you need to change the rest of the system to 12 volts. That means a 12 volt coil, generator, and voltage regulator. You also would need to change out the light bulbs if you want lights.
