I have a 544D Hydro. Hydro drives are very nice to have for most any PTO work. For tillage I would recommend having or borrowing a gear drive. I have noticed that my hydro dont seem to have the raw power of the same model in a gear drive. I have heard that the hydro pump takes about 20HP from the tractor pulling power, dont know if its true or not. Everyone told me to stay away from the hydro's. I tried her out before buying to see if the hydro slipped or had any other loud issues when being used. You should be able to stall the engine locking the brakes or putting a hard load on the tractor at a low to med idle, just as you would a gear drive. There are days I wish I had a gear drive, but there is never a day that I wish I did not have this Hydro. You will use quite a bit more fuel with the Hydro than a gear drive so make sure that is in you plans. Other wise happy shopping
