If you have 8 volts at the starter it is insufficient, and the battery (though looking good is not fully charged, or is weak. a strong battery will show 10.5 volts while cranking. Jump start it with a hot battery it will go. (if jumping, connect to the frame near the starter, and to the battery side of the starter switch, and use neg ground If it is a common car alternator) JimN
